Some Serenity Please

I have really one day a week to myself to get things done. That happens to be today (Thursday). Both kids go to school, I run by weight watchers, then home to work on studio stuff.

Last week I was inspired to make some flowers atop some shards to use for decoration in planters around the house.

Well, if you look close enough to the picture above you can see how a bunch of them broke. I know better than to leave things out because Peeves (also pictured above) really enjoys hanging out in the studio too. But in my running around like a fool, forgot to put these in a place safe for drying.

Ah well, lesson learned again... The up side to this would be learning the weak points in the design, which I was questioning anyway.

Better to not let damages like this ruin the day... Really in the big picture it's just spilled clay...

Off to glaze as soon as the kiln is cool enough to unload (more cutout flower pieces in there!)...

Clay Flowers Atop Shards...

Today I actually had a couple of hours to spend playing with clay in my studio.

I concentrated on making some cutout flower pendants, some cabs, and these...

They are flowers perched on top of some shard pieces, meant to go into your household potted plants.

They are still quite at the experimental stage as to how I am going to be making these...
Do they get wire imbedded within the stem?
Do they get wire just in the tip end of the shard stem?
Maybe no wire at all?

In my head, I go into "production" mode way of thinking. I can't help it. I feel that in order to justify being able to spend time in the studio at this point of my life, it needs to be making something that will bring in some income. I've been in this mode for years now, since I decided to get married and take a chance at quitting my day job and making money by running my own business.

It's not easy trying to be creative in amongst all the pressures of daily life.
In just this last week alone we had a lot going on in our family:
1 funeral (95 year old great uncle), 1 appendix removed (husband) and on 2 week recovery, 1 sick toddler (Chloe) for a week of vomiting, 1 baptism & party (Riley) that went on as planned, even though Dave had his appendix removed just hours before (crazy man!).

Can I just say I'm exhausted and feel like I'm getting a sore throat. Bet it's because my defenses are down... Well, with that, I'm off for a bit...

Keep an eye out on the BOC Blog for my Cone 6 Glaze Test Blog Posting every third Friday of the month. Maybe you can take a look at some of the new glazes I'm hoping to try out on these more sculptural pieces which will soon include pagodas and toadstools, all in miniature for your house plants... (and for the fairies that live there!)

An Evening With Jenny Davies-Reazor at the NAA

Chloe went to her first art opening last night...
My good friend Jenny Davies-Reazor had a solo show at the Newark Arts Alliance here in Newark, DE.

Here we are with Jenny in front of some of her amazing mixed media collages (wall hangings).

As we walked around the room (Chloe in arms) we looked at all the different imagery Jenny uses in her work... And Chloe pointed out and spoke the words of things she noticed "look mommy, the sun. A bird... two birds! Wow - Blue! And look mommy, over 'dere, and 'dere... I want to see that".
The work was amazing! You should stop by and see it sometime this month (up until May 29th).

Here are some mosaics on buildings near the NAA.

And Chloe noticed some of these glass cabochons...

Who wouldn't be inspired...

We were... We quick stopped by the dollar store on our way home and bought some class cabochons of our own to glue out in our garden... Why not right?

Check out my Garden Blog Post for a peek at some other fun things we did yesterday...

Probably one of the best memorable days for doing fun simple things I've had in a long time!

A Little Down Time

Been a bit on the down low for a few weeks...

Went away for a quick FL getaway for a week...
Back home and feeling a bit exhausted trying to get back into the swing of things...

All of us that is...

Wish I could sleep that sound though...

Will be back to "normal" soon!

Happy Spring and upcoming Mother's Day if I don't get a chance to blog before then!
