Treasury Catching Up...

I'm back from vacation (almost back for a week now) and things on the personal front just keep piling and piling on. It's life though and you've just got to take things one step at a time and kick through it right?!

So while I'm getting my list punched out, here are some pretty blue related treasuries that you can find items from my Etsy shop in:

Stormy Skies by Megan
The Ocean Song by Bayila
Blue #5 by YuniliSmiles
Sea Shore by Alison Tolson
Lots of beautiful blue collections...
I'm honored to have some items included!

Treasury Collection Exercises...

I love seeing how different people create Treasury collections on Etsy.com.
Here is one that I created for Beads of Clay for the First Friday Art Walk.
Beads of Clay members for February 2012 First Friday Art Walk.
This one was pretty easy to create.
I just searched the team tag for handmade items, then selected my theme (the color blue).
Delaware Etsy Street Team Feb 2012 First Friday Art Walk
Not so easy is to create this one above from a team that is not around a common theme...
The Delaware Etsy Street Team is a location based team.
So unless shops are using the proper tags, you are limited to what shops you can include for a certain event. Especially if that event is a promotional one, and some shops aren't interested in being part of it.

And I'm always amazed to see how pieces from my shop fit into treasuries.
And I've worked hard to get better photos so that people would want to use them in treasury collections.
That was one of my goals for 2011.
Have better photos, get more exposure, get new customers.

If you've ever tried to sell anything online, you know how important photographing your work is in order to get people to want to actually purchase it from you.
My photography has come a long way since the beginning...
MNS Chickadee Photo enhancement
And still, there are some days where I need to photograph something, but the weather is not cooperating, and it is too cloudy out, I photograph anyway, and things have a bit more blue to it than I would like.
I always have to go back and shoot them again (will I ever learn?!)

I think if you want to start to figure out how to improve your photography and increase your exposure on Etsy and through other online Social Media outlets - such as Pinterest - and really get results...
You've got to have beautiful photos and you've got to update and refresh tags once in a while.
Think popular colors, seasonal themes, holidays, & teams - just as the basics for more involvement.

An exercise for your brain and to refine your photography skills at how you want your work to be seen is:
1. Look at treasury collections that you are drawn to - what items stand out?
What is is about those listings makes you want to click on it?
Why is a treasury successful or just eh...

2. Do you have items that would fit into these collections?

3. Does your current photograph of that item make the grade?
If not, try again. Use props. Use models. Watch out for shadows.
Try a 12"x12" scrapbook paper - make your background stay to the background.
Do not let it distract from it.

Ensure success:
1. Don't be overwhelmed. Take small practical steps. Get your brain ready.

2. Work by item groups in your shop - updating common items makes you feel like you accomplish more.

3. Take a fewphotos, put them in your computer, try them out. If they don't work, try to figure out why.

4. Once you get your photos done, organize them. Title them. Create files for easy access while updating.
Maybe consider grouping by items that are easy to "copy listings" with minimal changes.

5. Tags. This is something to look at before going overboard with listing items.
Look into your shop stats & see what people are typing in to find your items use these as tags.
Try searching for items as if you were a customer looking. What would you type in?
Where do you show up in searches through Etsy?
Don't forget team tags. Try using the most of the space you have.
Combine tags that make sense.
Like for the Delaware Etsy team I use the team tag: DETeam
For events there are abbreviated tags: FFAW for FirstFridayArtWalk
So I would use DETeam FFAW all on one line.
That way, when someone is searching for items from the Delaware team, it shows up.
When someone is looking for FFAW it shows up.
And if my team member is creating a treasury and wants to use items from our Delaware team that they know are participating in this First Friday event, they would have direct access to a narrowed search which allows them to have to put out less effort. I want to make it easy for them to find my shop and use my items. Tagging properly makes it easy for someone to find you through the Etsy search.

6. Google Analytics. It is a bit scary I admit. But if you have the time look into it - at least get it turned on for your Etsy shop so it can start tracking (shop settings, options, shop analytics).

I just felt like it was important for me to write this stuff out.
Everyone does things different with what makes their shop successful.
These are things that I do that have helped my shop success in the last year and for being active on various Etsy teams.

I hope it might help you out a bit if you are struggling with your shop.

Friendship Day...

There seems to be a day for everything,
But never enough time in a day…

And below is the clickable version of the Treasury Collection I've created over on Etsy that I like to call:
Friendship Bracelets

Etsy, Blogs, FB, Twitter, and all kinds of other group sites and the like have allowed my community of friends to grow SO huge & my life to seem more enhanced by the interactions with you all...

So, with today being friendship day, I thought it would be nice to create a treasury with members from the various Etsy Teams I'm on. I would love to do one for my blogging friends, beady friends, etc, but alas… not enough time today (but soon - maybe).

Don't you just love making and wearing bracelets?!
Especially ones that are handmade by friends?!
I know I do…

Happy Friendship Day to all my friends out there!
(yes, I mean you!)

Morning Light At The End Of Summer...

I am inspired by the thoughts of cool mornings…
At the End of Summer…
And the way the Morning Light shines through...
Morning Light At The End Of Summer by Marsha Neal Studio
This is my newest Etsy Treasury that I've created with a gathering of some of my recent favorite things.
Would love for you to stop by Etsy and comment on this Treasury Collection
Thank You!

The kids are off to school and I am into the studio for a bit before running to my diagnostics shift for the Master Gardeners (going to see if I can help diagnose what is wrong with samples of plants or ID insects that are dropped off - I get to play with a microscope!!!)

Promotion or Procrastination?

In my heart I feel that creating Etsy Treasuries is helping to promote my Etsy shop.
Beads of Clay Members Treasury for August 2011.

While at the same time helping out fellow Etsians and various teams that I'm on…
It is all about getting out there promoting items right?
Being part of the Etsy community…
Building and promoting and getting fast at it...

Sometimes - like right now - it feels a bit on the procrastination part.
I think I'm a little anxious about firing my little kiln.
The same kiln (the cone actually - it did not melt properly) that did this:

Glazes ran down the beads…
Colors were muddied & not even…
A bunch of these pieces were custom made pieces for Etsy orders…
That took me all last week to work on and get fired…

But it is firing now.
I still am weary.
I think it will pass if this next firing comes out "normal".
So I'm doing all kinds of stuff down here in the basement studio…
To keep an eye and ear out for the kiln as it is firing.
Want to make sure nothing is going on weird with the kiln itself...

A quick little family excursion to the beach helped me get over the depressed feelings of a weeks worth of work into the garbage...
RJ experiencing the waves onto the beach for the first time
(and not freaking out).
Chloe and her favorite drippy sand castles...
Milkweed seed and a secret wish attached...
I have also come to love even more the blowing of secret wishes into the air from atop of seeds that have burst from their protective pods, now that I've got two little ones that enjoy making wishes and catching them as well...
So I'm sending this little one out to Andrew on his blog for the Word of the Week:
Secret
It will be the color inspiration for some new silk bundles I'm going to be pulling for my Etsy shop Silk Knot Bundle Section soon. I am wishing to have an entire blog post designated to some new palettes and the inspirations for them later this week - but that is not the secret ;)

Thanks for stopping by!
Hope you are enjoying this last month of Summer…

Help Me ~ Team & Treasury Frenzy...

I find it interesting to be part of teams over on Etsy - there is such a mix of artists...

For the Etsy Mud Team I just created this treasury:

And for the Delaware Etsy Street Team, this one:

So if you see me posting more treasuries for Beads of Clay and TriState Area Teams before next week - make sure to call my husband and tell him I need help…

I just can't help it sometimes - there is such awesome stuff over there on Etsy and I can't afford it all, so somehow making Treasuries - or rather "personal viewing collections" - I feel like I've shopped without having to come home and hide everything. Or rather, for Etsy shopping - get to the mailbox and hide all the items before Dave sees them…

Man I miss the days of having a car with my own private trunk space…

I'm off to the studio for a bit this week.
Making beads & glazing pieces for orders to be happening…

What are you up to this week?

Favorites Into Treasuries Again...

Do you ever just fall in love with Etsy Treasuries?
I think they can be challenging to make with you have to make one for a team, or something specific…
But if you are able to create them from your favorites list…
Well, that is all together something enjoyable and quite addictive.

What do you think?
Do you like these collections?
What about them speaks to you?
Or do they do nothing for you?

A Treasury Inspired By My Daydreams...

Do you dream in color? I know that I must because I often remember vivid colors when I wake up…
I am also a very emotional dreamer, talking in my sleep a lot and having a hard time leaving dream emotions behind. There are times I can't shake the emotions (Dave can tell you some pretty funny stories - we just laugh them off together once we figure out what is going on emotionally).

These colors I am drawn to in life, and one of the things I love about being part of the Etsy community is the opportunity to create collections of some items that could have come from some of my dreams (either sleeping dreams or daydreams).

There is something about being a part of a group of creative people that enjoy life through food, gardening, beading, art, clay, photography, friends & family (did I forget anyone - oh, chocolate and coffee lovers) that we have bonded through meeting in person and here online and have touched each others lives in so many ways…

Well, if you would like, you can click on over to the "Dreaming of Enchanted Woods" treasury on Etsy and leave a comment (I really enjoy reading comments - to see how the overall color and items makes you feel). And you never know - one of these items might end up talking to you and inspire your day (or maybe you'll end up even owning one of them!)

Have a wonderful day!

Woodland Wanderings Treasury...

I find that as I am side tracked by Etsy Circles, I create quite a collection of items that seem to "fit" together, making it almost impossible to not create a treasury.

Here is my latest…

Inspired by wonderful art that these artists have created and for the desire to want to spend lots of time outside with my little ones teaching them about nature and then watching them discover all kinds of things for themselves for the first time. And for them learning things, then explaining them to me or others that may visit our gardens and woods…

Will you travel over to Etsy and visit this treasury and some of the items contained within it?
I would love to read your comments over there if you have a moment…

Thanks for stopping by!

Some Of My Recent Favorites On Etsy

I love the somewhat new Etsy circles.
They make me want to create Treasuries often, but time does not allow…

Here is a Treasury I just created that I titled

I am so in love with all these things.
I just wish I had the monies to be able to afford to buy everything I fall in love with on Etsy…

On a quick side note. I think I may be keeping my garden blog as my garden blog and not getting rid of it as I had thought I might with integrating all of my blogs into one. I will cross post - or direct this main blog over there as there are related things or inspirations… There is just SO much in my head right now and I have not had a moment to sit and write it out yet.

Chocolate Clay Toggles and Multi Hole Pieces

Here is a quick post to let you all know that I have listed a few new items into my Etsy Shop under the Shards section.
Chocolate Clay Toggle "set". If they make it out of the kiln similar enough, they are listed as a set.
Sets are harder to "make on purpose". And I rather enjoy making them where maybe they will come out...
I like the way that some listings on Etsy show up close detail of the piece to draw the viewer in.
Makes you think - what the heck is that?
Porcelain Clay Shards in Green Sea Glass glaze.
Ohhhh… I love the color & texture…
Then you can decide if you need to have it immediately even though you are not sure what to do with it (I have a lot of items like this just because I loved the surface color & texture) or maybe just favorite it until later.
Three Hole Chocolate Clay Shard.
Although, I do have to say - I am really getting to the point of moving away from production clay and doing what I want in it.
So you might want to get it while you can…
Changes on the horizon for this clay gal!

Oh, and check out this Etsy Mud Team treasury from JD Wolfe Pottery
"The Break Up" which features my Chocolate Clay Shard Toggles:
So very cool…
I love these textures and patina colors…
What do you think about these pieces in my shop?
Wouldn't they look awesome used in pieces for the Vintaj Woodland Blush DesignChallenge?
Here is another Vintaj blog link to a post with some inspiring pieces for the Woodland Blush Design Challenge.
I'm seriously considering making at least one item to submit.
Maybe I'll go right now and work on it…
Submissions are due by noon on April 8th (CST).

Would love to see someone submit some designs using my shard pieces with the Vintaj pieces, maybe some of Shannon's (MissFickleMedia) pieces too…
Guess we'll see...

Etsy Treasury From My Favorites...

I am drawn to blues - teals - aquas…
The blue green patinas have me…
So I created this treasury from just a few of my favorites on Etsy and wanted to share it with you:

I have shared a link to this treasury over on the Delaware Etsy Street Team Blog as part of the weekly "Delaware Treasury Tuesday" post.

Oh, these treasuries are fun…

Next I would love to work on one for the artists participating in the BOC open studio on March 6th…

My First Treasury That I Created...

I am excited to share with you a blog post that I wrote over on the Delaware Etsy Street Team Blog on my first ever Etsy Treasury I created tonight (um - like - I am up way too late. It is considered early now - oops!)

It's called: Dreaming of Delaware Romance. It features work exclusively from the DE Etsy Street Team Members.

So what do you think? How did I do? Honesty Please...
If you follow through to the link to the Etsy page, would you leave me a comment there?
You can comment here if you have suggestions to offer (I am asking too much, I know…)

If you have always wanted to create a Treasury, but never knew where to start (like me) click on that blog post for the DEST and follow the directions at the end of the post.

You guys/gals are the best!!!
